History

Garokk was an ancient being that once ruled the Savage Land as a god, until he was defeated by the High Evolutionary and imprisoned within the earth. Garrok remained dormant for a long time, fading into legend and worshipped by the tribes that inhabited the Savage Land.

Garokk would finally awaken from his slumber when the mutant X-Men came to the Savage Land and fought against the forces of Mr. Sinister. The X-Man Storm, who controlled the primal elements, inadvertently awoke Garokk when unleashing her powers.

Through his high priestess Zaladane, Garrok began to work to be free once again. He plotted to merge with the planetary power surging beneath the Savage Land, which would make him powerful enough to never again be imprisoned. To this end, he conspired to bring Storm back to the Savage Land. He manipulated the warring denizens of the Savage Land, culminating in his tricking Sauron into kidnapping and hypnotizing Storm. With her inhibition gone, Storm lost control of her powers and unleashed the primal forces of the elements onto the Savage Land, allowing Garokk to extend his influence throughout the land.

Just as Garokk began absorbing the energy he sought, Sauron intervened, using his enegy draining abillities to steal the power away from Garokk. The two fought, and now evenly matched, destroyed each other. Garokk was once again confined to his prison within the earth.[1]
