History

Not much is known about the past of Guy Thierrault, including how he gained the mantel of Flag-Smasher. His first known activity occurred at the Santa Monica Farmer's Market during the superhero Civil War. Two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents approached him to conduct a routine search when he donned his mask and declared America a Fascist state seeking to consolidate its superhuman power. He was opposed by the Runaways and defeated when Victor Mancha disrupted his exoskeleton. He was presumably captured by S.H.I.E.L.D. after this altercation.[2]

Escaping from custody, Flag-Smasher and his U.L.T.I.M.A.T.U.M. group tried to destroy the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, but their attack was foiled by the Liberteens - Pennsylvania's chapter of the 50-State Initiative.[3]

When Deadpool blew up their Helicarrier, numerous friends and family of the surviving U.L.T.I.M.A.T.U.M. soldiers perished.[4] After an attempt to have revenge on Deadpool failed and ended up with Flag-Smasher threatened for life,[5] the Flag-Smasher gave the order to never attempt to face Deadpool again, while keeping the motive secret from his subordinates.

The rest of the U.L.T.I.M.A.T.U.M. members grew tired of Flag-Smasher's reluctance to face Deadpool, and one of them shot him from behind and declared himself the new Flag-Smasher, with the first action to have revenge on Deadpool.[6]
