History
When Earth-616 was menaced by the psychic entity Onslaught the combined efforts of the Fantastic Four and the Avengers sacrificed their lives to destroy the creature. However they would all cheat death thanks to the subconscious intervention of Franklin Richards the son of the Fantastic Four's Reed and Susan Richards. Young Franklin's vast reality warping powers would create a pocket universe where these heroes would be transported too where they would relive their lives in similar but different ways.
In this reality, Reed Richards would still go to college, however he would be part of a group of scientists called the Knights of the Atomic Table, which would consist of other scientists such as Tony Stark, Henry Pym, Victor von Doom, Bruce Banner, and Rebel O'Reilly. When a failed experiment would scar Victor von Doom, Doom would return to Latveria, blaming Richards for the accident and fate would have their paths to cross again.
Ben Grimm meanwhile was a college buddy of Reed Richards, and was leery of Reed's "egg head" friends. Ben would go on to fight in the Gulf War and get injured in combat and be reduced to being a test pilot.
As for Susan Storm and her brother Johnny, they would be the wealthy heirs of Storm Industries, Susan would run the business end of things while young hot-shot Johnny was a successful casino owner and playboy. Susan would eventually meet and start a relationship with Reed Richards.
When Reed would begin a the work on a new experimental space cruiser for interplanetary travel (dubbed the Excelsior: Project) the Storm Foundation would fun the project along with the US Government. Setting up the launch in California, Reed would hire Ben to be the test pilot. The project would seemingly be hijacked by rogue SHIELD agent Wyatt Wingfoot (in reality the disguise Skrull named Kl'rt.) This was all orchestrated by Victor von Doom, now calling himself Dr. Doom, and now the ruler of Latveria. This is because when news of a spacial anomaly would lead Doom to trying to harness it's power, and sending his own agents to use nuclear weapons to try and subdue the force behind the anomaly.
Although the four friends would be incarcerated, they would break free and chase after the Excelsior in a prototype model and witness the anomaly (really the Silver Surfer a Herald of Galactus.) The resulting nuclear explosion would cause Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben to be bombarded with combination of radiation from the nuclear blast and the Power Cosmic of the Silver Surfer.
Crash landing on Earth, the foursome would find that they have been endowed with super-human abilities. Much like their lives on Earth-616, they would manifest the same super-human abilities: Reed would gain the ability to stretch his body, Sue the ability to turn invisible, Johnny would be able to burst into flame and Ben would mutate into the a rock skinned Thing. Shortly after the crash Sue and Ben would be captured by the Mole Man and his Moloids along with the ships unstable Quantum Drive. Reed and Johnny would go to Sue and Ben's rescue and engage in battle against the Mole Man. During their battle, Reed would note the Mole Man's rantings of a being known as Galactus as well as strange carvings that predicted the cosmic anomaly. The four heroes would manage to prevent the Quantum Drive from exploding and escape the Mole Man's lair which would seemingly collapse upon itself.
The group would then be taken into SHIELD custody for examination, however they would attempt to break out when they realize that SHIELD's headquarters is aboard a gigantic helicarrier. Recaptured, they are brought before Nick Fury who advises them of an attack on the surface world by the Sub-Mariner and his Atlantian forces. Agreeing to help SHIELD stop Namor, the group would put on SHIELD uniforms designed out of Reed's own unstable molecule formula. However, not wishing to be affiliated with SHIELD, they would modify them with a new logo and dub themselves the Fantastic Four.
During their battle with Namor, Namor would call upon the gigantic sea creature named Giganto and the battle would escalate to the point where the Avengers would be called in. When Captain America is able to talk Namor into taking more diplomatic means to deal with his grievances with the surface world, Namor would be betrayed by Warlord Krang who seeks to usurp the Atlantean throne and take over the surface world. With the help of Dorma the Fantastic Four and the Avengers would give Namor the needed medical attention to stop the battle.
In the meantime, Ben would tackle Giganto on his own and be easily knocked aside by the gigantic beast. He would end up in the apartment of Alicia Masters and the encounter would lead to a brief romance between the two later. Ben would ultimately defeat Giganto with the aid of Nick Fury, who drops Ben off inside Giganto's mouth with the Quantum Drive, which Ben in turn would detonate, killing Giganto. The battle against the Atlanteans would stop shortly there after.
Setting up shop in New York City, the Fantastic Four would rent out space in the Baxter Building and use it as their base of operations. Reed would then begin to examine their abilities, wondering how they exhibited knowledge of how to use their abilities so well after just recently getting them (completely unaware that of their true natures.) Needing more information, Reed would track the data core from their ship to Wakanda and they would travel there to recover it with the aid of T'Challa Wakanda's ruler and also the costumed hero known as the Black Panther.
They would be captured by "Wyatt Wingfoot" and taken to Latveria and brought before Dr. Doom. Meanwhile, the real Wyatt Wingfoot (having escaped from Latveria and returned to the States) would seek out the Fantastic Four's help in the Baxter Building, only finding Ben and Johnny present. The duo would agree to join Wyatt in travelling to Latveria to save Reed and Sue.
Back in Latveria, Doom reveals to Reed and Sue that he had captured the cause of the anomaly that gave them their powers: The Silver Surfer, and uses Sue as a hostage to force Reed into working on a means to syphon the Surfers powers. When Reed succeeds, the faux-Wyatt reveals himself as a member of the Skrull race who hope to harness the Power Cosmic for themselves to get revenge against Galactus for destroying their home world. Kl'rt would absorb some of the Surfer's power and dub himself the Super-Skrull. With the added aid of the Black Panther, Ben, Johnny and the Black Panther, the Fantastic Four would restore the Surfer's power and escape before Doom's castle exploded seemingly killing the Skrull's present. Dr. Doom and the Silver Surfer would survive the blast however.
When a Gamma Ray explosion would change Reed's old colleague Bruce Banner into the Hulk, Dr. Doom would seek to learn the the secrets from the transformation leading to a conflict between Doom, the Avengers, and the Fantastic Four. Doom would fail in his attempt and Banner, now dealing with his transformations into the rampaging Hulk would escape and continue to be at large. The Thing would play a pivotal role in defeating the Hulk, however he would have to be hospitalized following the battle.
When Reed Richards would learn about a parallel dimension that he would dub the Negative Zone, he and the other Fantastic Four members would travel into the Zone to explore it. At first they would be menaced by one of Zone's beings known as Blastaar however Blastarr would be stopped by the Watcher who would show each member a glimpse of their former lives on Earth-616. Reed would witness the Fantastic Four's battle against the X-Men during a time when there was a misunderstanding between the two groups. Sue would witness a moment where she spent time in Central Park with her son Franklin and Agatha Harkness. This would unnerve Sue, because in this reality she has been told that she incapable of having children. Johnny would witness his wedding to what appears to be Alicia Masters (but was in reality the Skrull named Lyja.) They would then be returned to the Baxter Building to ponder what they had saw. The Watcher role in these revelations would be in the hopes that the Fantastic Four could remember who they really are and flee this pocket dimension before the Earth is destroyed by Galactus, who at this point is making his way to Earth to consume it.
Next the Fantastic Four would be guest of an unveiling of a ancient tablet found by Dr. Johnson a former teacher of Reed Richards. This tablet in reality would be the property of the Inhumans who would send Crystal to recover it. This would lead to a battle between the FF against Crystal and her Inhuman relatives Gorgon and Karnak. Johnny would be seriously injured in the fight and the Inhumans would take him off to their home of Attlian to give him medical treatment. The rest of the Fantastic Four, believing that the Inhumans had malicious intent would follow after them and be blasted out of the sky over Attilan by the Inhumans leader Black Bolt.
After another battle with the Inhumans, the Fantastic Four would figure out the misunderstanding and to their surprise find that the Inhumans worship Galactus and his Heralds as they had some role in creating life on Earth. When Black Bolt's mad brother Maximus would attempt to take over Attilan for Galactus, the Fantastic Four and the Inhuman Royal family would work together to stop him.
Returning to New York City, Reed, Sue and Ben would spend time in Central Park. Sue would tell Reed at that time that she is pregnant with his child. Their joy is short lived when they are attacked by Terrax one of the Heralds of Galactus who has come to investigate the Fantastic Four's powers and herald the coming of his master. Terrax easily over powers the Fantastic Four however is stopped by the Silver Surfer who regards the Four as his friends as they had save his life, the two Heralds however are called back to Galactus.
As Galactus has his Heralds place bio-conversion units around the Earth to convert all life on the planet into energy that Galactus would then feed on, the Fantastic Four would team up with the Avengers and gather their mutual allies to deal with the threat of Galactus. Before staging their attacks Reed would propose to Sue who would accept his proposal. During the fight, the combined efforts of the Fantastic Four, Avengers and their various allies would be able to stop devices planet by Terrax, Firelord, Plasma, however the heroes suffer losses including the lives of Johnny and Ben. When Reed and Sue are at the mercy of Terrax, the Herald is stopped by the Silver Surfer who has had witnessed humanities compassion and wishes to try and spare the Earth from destruction.
This comes too late as it is revealed that a previously unknown Herald known as Air-Walker has succeeded in planting a device in Antarctica. With second remaining on Earth, Reed witnessed Dr. Doom (in a suit of armour capable of draining the Power Cosmic and a time travel device provided to him by his future self) drain the power of the Silver Surfer and Terrax. When Doom attempts to attack Galactus directly, he is easily swatted away. With only seconds left before Earth's destruction Dr. Doom escapes just as Galactus activates his devices and destroying the Earth.
Dr. Doom would travel three more times into the past just prior to the attack on Earth by Galactus and his Heralds. Each time, the events would play out slightly differently but with the same outcome: All would perish at the hands of Galactus with the exception of Doom who would travel back in time. Each time however, Doom would have one more piece of information which he could provide to improve their chances. In the end the Silver Surfer (rigged with a special device constructed by the reunited Knights of the Atomic Table) would sacrifice his life to destroy Galacus and save the Earth.
Shortly after this, the Earth would be menaces again from threats coming from another cosmos. The Fantastic Four and the Avengers would team up with the metapowered heroes of this other cosmos to end the crisis.
As all these events unfolded, a year would pass on Earth-616, and the Celestials, learning of Franklin's pocket universe would send their agent Ashema to deliver Franklin an ultimatum: He would have to choose which Earth would live and which one would die. This is because the existence of both worlds is causing upheavals in the universe due to the fact hat Bruce Banner had been split in two with one half existing on Earth-616 and the other one in the pocket dimension. In order to full understand what he had done, Franklin would be transported to his pocket universe and meet his parents, who would not recognize him. Upset and unsure how to choose, Franklin would in turn succeed in teaching Ashema compassion for human life and the two would work together with the combined efforts of the Fantastic Four, Avengers and Spider-Man (who was accidentally transported to the pocket dimension with the Hulk.)
Constructing a vessel to transverse the Negative Zone and cross back into the Earth-616 universe, the heroes who were transported to the pocket universe following the Onslaught conflict would return home, however Dr. Doom would attempt to escape with Franklin, hoping to utilize the boys power. The Fantastic Four and the Avengers would prevent this, saving Franklin and sending Doom flying back into the Negative Zone, and seemingly perish. Upon breaching the barrier back into the Earth-616 universe, the Fantastic Four and their allies would have their memories restored to normal.
The pocket dimension would endure, however it the Earth in that dimension would ultimately be transported to the Earth-616 dimension on the opposite side of the Sun from Earth-616 and would be dubbed Counter Earth.
The Fantastic Four would leave a legacy of sorts on Counter-Earth, their headquarters the Baxter Building would become the staging ground of Dr. Doom when he attempted to take control of Counter-Earth, which he would succeed for at time. The Fantasticar that was built by Reed on Counter-Earth would also be taken into the property of the newly formed hero group known as the Remnants.
In addition to this, following the House of M reality warp on Earth-616, Onslaught would be resurrected and the creatures first order of business would be to get revenge against Franklin Richards. Franklin would flee into a new pocket dimension which would be populated with heroes that mirror the ones that existed in his previous pocket dimension, including a Fantastic Four team with a presumable past similar to the events described above.

Paraphernalia
Equipment: The Fantastic Four had access to the various scientific devices invented by Reed Richards, all made possible presumably from funding by the Storm Foundation.
Transportation: The Fantastic Four would travel in a what Reed would dub the "Fantasticar" a high tech jet which could at least allow the Fantastic Four to travel from New York to Latveria in a matter of moments. According to Reed Richards it could travel at hyper-sonic speeds.
Weapons: None known.
Notes
- It is interesting to note that while Sue claims that she was pregnant, it is only mentioned once and never addressed again. Presumably, one could assume that her inability to have children perhaps stemmed from a subconscious imperative imposed by Franklin. As Sue was clearly not pregnant again until Franklin restored his sister Valeria Richards months later, it is unknown what happened to this supposed pregnancy.
