Tomb of Dracula #36

Quincy Harker, Rachel van Helsing, and Inspector Chelm have been gathered by Doctor Scott to hear a recorded testimony from an eye witness of Dracula's most recent activities:

The first testimony comes from William Perry, who works at the London airport, he explains how when he and his foreman were checking out the landing gear on a plane headed for Boston the foreman noticed something wrong with the right wheel. This would prompt the flight to Boston to be delayed by three hours. When the announcement is made, this would prompt Dracula to confront a ticket agent to get on another flight. When they all turned out to be booked solid, Dracula would lash out at the man, prompting a call to security. In the struggle, Dracula would feed on one of the airport staff before fleeing in his mist form.

Stopping the first tape, Dr. Scott prepares to put in the next when Rachel questions why they are wasting their time listening to the tapes. Scott makes a poignant observation that these tapes reveal Dracula's current mindset and that it may be a key to defeating the vampire. He then puts on another tape which has the testimony of Captain Sid Greenely of the US Air Force, who is stationed in the United Kingdom.

Greenely explains how he was ordered to fly a military fighter jet to Washington D.C. in order to test out a new on board camera. Overhearing the mission plan, Dracula decides to hitch a ride aboard the jet. Sneaking on board in mist form, Dracula reveals himself to Greenely once the jet is airborne. Dracula introduces himself to Sid and demands that he change his course to Boston, Massachusetts. When Greenely tells Dracula that he's been photographed and the military will not allow a "spy" to get away scott free, Dracula laughs at this and allows Sid to photograph him. Sid realizes he is dealing with more than a mere spy when the photograph shows no picture. Pulling up the file on the jets computer tells the chilling truth about Dracula's true nature. Just then the jet would spiral out of control due to the added weight of Dracula in the ship and some how the devices would go haywire causing the jet to fire it's own missiles. It would require some fancy flying to dodge these missiles. During the maneuver, Sid would notice that Dracula experienced pain and signed with relief once the threat of the missiles had passed.

The testimony would conclude with an explanation of what happened when the jet landed in Boston. Dracula would be met by a group of soldiers that would open fire on the vampire lord. Dracula would just stand his ground, taking a number of rounds before turning into a bat and flying away.

With the testimony over, Dr. Scott would explain that Dracula was found in a weakened condition and given a ride from a taxi driver and then later failed in feeding upon a young girl. Quincy stops Scott from playing anymore tapes, having heard enough he decides that his vampire hunters must travel to America and try and stop Dracula there.

While in Brazil, Frank Drake and Brother Voodoo travel to the hut that is owned by Danny Summer. Inside he finds only Chastity Jones. When he demands answers from her and tells her that Danny tried to kill him with zombies, she tells him that Danny fled when he heard them coming up the road. Spotting Danny trying to steal their jeep, Frank and Brother Voodoo stop him. Frank strikes Danny down and demands to know who hired Danny to kill him. Danny explains it was Dracula, and that he had no ability to resist his commands. Not fully believing him, Frank accepts the response and leaves him be. When Frank thanks Brother Voodoo for his help, Brother Voodoo tells Frank that he didn't help Frank just to let him up and leave.

While in London, Quincy and Rachel board a plane heading for Boston. After bidding them farewell, Dr. Scott goes to a telephone booth and reports in to his master: Doctor Sun.

Werewolf by Night #33

With the stunned werewolf slung across his shoulder, Moon Knight ascends the rope ladder leading to his Moon-Chopper. The police fire off a few shots in the hopes of bringing them down, but the chopper flies out of range.

In Haiti, Raymond Coker goes to the swampland hut of Jeesala of the Thousand Years. He tells her of his experience as a werewolf and also tells her of an incident concerning the sudden deaths of his aunt and uncle. He recounts testimony provided by his cousin Banita, which claims that her parents were strangled and dragged off by a man named Papa Jaranda. Papa Jaranda is Coker's great-grandfather and he died over thirty-two years ago. Jeesala tells him that the zuvembies have returned to Haiti. She refers him to a man named Jericho Drumm.

Back in the United States, the werewolf awakens mere inches away from the cabin of the helicopter. He begins lashing out at Moon Knight and the two topple from the rope ladder and plummet into the ocean. Moon Knight drags the stunned werewolf onto the nearby docks and they continue battling one another. As dawn rises, the werewolf turns back into Jack Russell. Moon Knight puts him down for the count with a well-placed boot to the jaw. He meets back up with Frenchie and together they bring Jack, as well as Lissa and Topaz to the Committee.

Meanwhile at Westwood Hospital, Elaine Marston and her daughter Buttons visits the room of coma patient Buck Cowan. The doctors explain that his injuries are quite severe and that he may even suffer from paralysis - providing of course that he even awakens from his coma.

At the Committee headquarters, the leader of the organization pays Moon Knight his ten-thousand dollar stipend. Jack Russell is concealed in a cage, while Lissa and Topaz are bound to a nearby wall. The Committee member reveals that he plans on using Jack as a secret weapon to eliminate rivals. Jack yells at Moon Knight and tells him that he hasn't just captured a monster, but an actual human being. Rhetorically, he asks him "Are you shocked to hear that I'm an honest-to-God person -- ?" Something in Jack's words sparks Moon Knight's conscience and he regrets having captured him. As the moon rises on the third night, Jack transforms once again into the werewolf. Moon Knight refuses to allow the Committee to use him as their personal secret weapon, so he frees Jack and together they tear into the Committee members. Most of them flee in terror, but the werewolf manages to rake their leader across the face with his claws. Moon Knight uses his crescent darts to free Lissa and Topaz then runs off. When the room is clear of bodies, the werewolf likewise leaves and races off into the night.

The entire accident is viewed by the Man-Thing, who silently watches the events unfold. Most people on the bus die, while Ralph survives. Among the few survivors from the bus are Mary Brown, soldier Jim Arsdale, student Holden Crane, and a young boy named Kevin Kennerman. When Kevin is pinned in the wreckage of the bus, Holden refuses to help. Holden claims being "against life", causing friction among the survivors.

The Man-Thing arrives, lifts up the wreckage, and frees the boy to the shock and awe of the other survivors. The muck-monster returns to the swamp without interacting with them. Jim gets into an altercation with Holden over Holden's lack of regard for the injured boy. Jim also picks a fight with Ralph Sorrell, when the survivors learn that Ralph was drinking before the accident.

With Kevin needing medical attention, the group decides to walk to the nearest town and get help. Jim is a local and is familiar with this area of Florida. He tells the others that his home town is on the other side of the swamp. He cautions them, however, of the danger of going deeper into the swamp. Everyone agrees that the dangerous path the fastest way to get help, and they decide to take it anyway.

Along the way, the group come to arguments over their different belief systems, and values. All the while facing various dangers inherent to the swamp. When a snake threatens them, the Man-Thing is there to save them. Eventually, Jim has enough with Holden's constant tirades against the military and begins beating on the boy. Meanwhile, Jennifer Kale has finished another date with her boyfriend Jaxon. Jennifer is suddenly struck with a horrible vision and passes out with a scream.

Back in the swamp, the survivors of the crash make it to the edge of a construction site owned by F.A. Schist. Ralph suddenly pulls a gun out on the others. He does not want to go to jail for the accident he causes. So, he has decided to eliminate all the surviving witnesses. He shoots and kills Holden and Jim, before the Man-Thing appears. Man-Thing disarms the killer. Ralph turns to flee, but finds a flame thrower on the construction site. Ralph decides to kill the monster and and tries to burn the Man-Thing with the flame thrower. His attack is ineffectual, and the Man-Thing manages to grab him. Ralph's own fear causes him to be burned to death.

The construction workers who camped out at the site arrive to see what all the commotion is. They find Mary, Kevin and the Man-Thing. Mary realizes that the monster has saved her life, and thanks the Man-Thing. The muck-monster naturally gives no response and indifferently returns to the swamp that serve as his home.
