History

Doctor Hyde was a great eye surgeon until one day when he was drunk on the job. He had slipped during an operation and blinded his patient, ruining his career. Bitter and angry, Hyde decided to use his skill to steal the eyes of famous writers and painters and force them to pay a $10,000 ransom to have their vision restored.

One such painter was Mr. Keene, a friend of Thomas Halloway, also known as the costumed hero the Angel. The night that Hyde was steeling Keene's eyes, Halloway was returning to Keene's home after forgetting his cigarette case at the party thrown there earlier the night. Hearing Keene's screams following his discovery that he was blind, the Angel prevented him from committing suicide. After finding the ransom note from Dr. Hyde, the Angel instructed Keene to play along with the ransom so that he could catch Hyde in the act.

Staking out Hyde's doctors office, the Angel waited until Hyde completed the operation on Keene then attack. The Angel easily overpowered Dr. Hyde and, threatening to blind him, forced Hyde into a confession. Having confessed to his scheme, Dr. Hyde was locked away in jail while Keene - completely cured - resumed his painting career.[1]
