Empowered by the Power Broker process as an attempt by Nick Fury to convince Steve Rogers he needed to become Captain America again (a role left vacant after "Bucky" Barnes had been sent to a Russian gulag), Dave Rickford went into action in New York City, stopping several minor crimes before attacking an A.I.M. base. Quickly overpowered, he was saved from being turned into a new MODOK by Rogers, who had been observing the rookie hero for a time. Defeating A.I.M., the duo made their escape from the destroyed ship A.I.M. was using. Telling Rickford he would eventually get himself killed, Rogers convinced Rickford to give up the identity.^[1]
