Tanaka is a member of the mutant community known as Skull Mesa. He is the town's physician.

Tanaka was on out of town business when he came across the stranded X-Man Cyclops. Giving him a ride into town, Tanaka warned Cyclops that the townsfolk liked their privacy. Tanaka healed Cyclops' wounded head (sustained when Watchdog shot his jet out of the sky) which allowed him to use his powers again.
