Synopsis for "Family Matters, Part One"

The Young Avengers confront Eli to convince him to rejoin the team. Then, Kl'rt the Super-Skrull attacks and claims Teddy is a Skrull and that he's come to bring him home. Changing into his Hulkling form and grows spikes out of his back to make the Super-Skrull let him go, Teddy insists that he is not a Skrull but a mutant. Kl'rt encases him in a forcefield sphere, claiming that he is and turns his eyes on his friends, intend on "freeing" Teddy from his Earthly distractions. Cassie increases in size to catch the Skrull but his flames hurt her. Kl'rt then uses his hypnosis to control Billy, to force Teddy to come with him. However, Teddy surprises him with a feat of superstrength, knocking the Skrull flat into the side of a building. The Young Avengers then escape down into the subway to make to the safety of Billy's house. However, Eli refuses to come with them and exits the underground, unaware of an invisible Super-Skrull waiting for him.

As the Young Avengers approach Billy's apartment, they fear the possibility of Teddy's parents being Skrulls. He states that his mother sells real estate and his father died of cancer. But when they open the door, they find Teddy's mother inside; Mrs. Kaplan explains that Mrs. Altman came over, very worried. Just as Teddy's mother was about to tell Teddy something important, the wall is blasted open, with the Super-Skrull holding Eli in his clutches. He demands that Teddy come with him, threatening to kill Eli. Teddy concedes to go with him, hoping to prove that he's not a Skrull. The Super-Skrull throws a device to reveal his true form. Though Teddy's isn't changed, his mother is, shocking everyone. The Super-Skrull states that that woman isn't his real mother, but a traitor to her race; Mrs. Altman retorts that the "Empress" told her to protect him, even from Kl'rt himself, pulling a gun out of her purse. Kl'rt says that her orders are "terminated", unleashing a flame at that engulfs her body. Billy attempts to use his magic to save her but is too late. Worse, Kl'rt has taken Teddy.
