Synopsis for "Beware the Juggernaut, My Son!"

The X-Men (as their normal selves) and dates are celebrating Bobby's birthday at the Coffee A Go-Go. Back at the mansion, Professor X reveals why he's been so secretive recently - he's got the Juggernaut restrained in the basement and wants to reform him! Back at the Coffee A Go-Go, the X-Men get attacked by Satan's Saints (a bike gang) because Zelda turned him down for a date (i kid you not). A brief fight ensues, and the X-Men manage to defeat the bikers without revealing their alter egos. Back in the mansion, Professor X enters Marko's mind, but a third mental presence interferes - the resulting backlash knocks the professor out and frees the Juggernaut! Unaware of their mentor's fate, most of the X-Men take their dates home, and Scott and Jean go for a walk where Scott starts to open up for the first time.[1] Returning back to the mansion in smaller groups, they all sense something is wrong, and reunite before going down to investigate the professor's lab. There they discover the Juggernaut, who overpowers the X-Men in a brief battle. His victory at hand, Juggernaut is contacted by a mysterious psychic emissary from Factor 3 who convinces the Juggernaut to go to Europe, and Juggernaut smashes his way out - leaving our unconscious heroes to regain their senses.

Notes

  • This issue celebrates Robert Drake's 18th birthday.
  • This issue is reprinted in many other comics and books, see references for more info.[2]

Trivia

  • The title is a parody of the famous line "Beware the Jabberwock, my son".
  • This is the first and only time during the original run (X-Men #1-66) the X-Men actually *finish* a date they are on without having to costume up.
