Synopsis for "The Black Blade"
The issue picks up almost exactly where the previous installment ("Possession is the Law") ends. Possessed by the Black Blade, Wolverine flees from the Silver Samurai and Lindsay McCabe with the unconscious Jessica Drew. Unwilling to leave her friend in the claws of the enemy, McCabe attempts to enter the burning building but is dragged away from the scene by the Samurai. Looking for answers, McCabe takes the Samurai to the Princess Bar, where they meet up with the owner O'Donnell. After a brief argument between McCabe and O'Donnell it's revealed that the three Cult members who attempted to kidnap McCabe in issue #1 ("Sword Quest") are being held prisoner by O'Donnell.
Convinced she can get the three of them to talk, McCabe attempts to interrogate them with no result. Suddenly, she goes into a fit of insanity - untying one of the prisoners and then appearing to beat and eventually stab the victim to death (however unbeknown by the prisoners, and the reader for a bit, the whole thing is an act). Sure enough, the other two start talking and reveal the location of the Cult's hideout: a Highland Temple out in the middle of nowhere. Learning that the ceremonial sacrifice will be held on the full moon (that very night) the Samurai, McCabe, and O'Donnell head out to rescue Drew.
Arriving at the temple, O'Donnell is left behind as McCabe, with the Samurai, takes up a position from which she can snipe the possessed Wolverine. Conflicted, McCabe hesitates to shoot Wolverine but finally pulls the trigger - blowing away half of his ceremonial demon mask. Thinking him dead, both the Samurai and McCabe descend from their position. While the Samurai fights off the Cult worshipers, McCabe attempts to awake Drew from her induced spell. Suddenly, Wolverine awakes and attacks McCabe - almost killing her before the Samurai blocks his strike.
The Samurai and Wolverine than face off with one another while McCabe tries to drag Drew out of harm's way. Eventually, the Samurai is overpowered by Wolverine, but before either the Samurai or McCabe can be killed Wolverine suddenly begins to snap out if it - returning back to normal. As both Drew and Wolverine begin to recover from their trances, the Samurai picks up the Black Blade. Fearing the worst Wolverine readies himself to kill him before the sword can take over, but nothing happens. The Samurai then reveals that his suspicions were correct in that a strong enough warrior with the same drive as what drives the sword can control it without being possessed by it. The Samurai then leaves the three others behind to their own fate. Holding Drew, Wolverine and McCabe then leave the temple - ending the issue.
