• Punisher: Born
  • The four individual issues were collected into a trade paperback released in 2004. The trade cover was the same as the first issue, and bonus features included character designs--with commentary--by Darick Robertson, two page layouts, the proposal letter written by Garth Ennis and concept art for all four issues. Also included are "Thoughts about Born" from Robertson, who's father served in the army during World War II, about striving for authenticity and photo references provided by David Lowe.
• Punisher: Born is a limited series published by the MAX imprint. Written by Garth Ennis with pencils by Darick Robertson, inks by Tom Palmer and colors by Paul Mounts the four issue series details the man who would become the Punisher, Frank Castle's time during the Vietnam War.

Synopsis

US Marine Captain Frank Castle is one of few soldiers stationed at Firebase Valley Forge in Cambodia that actually cares about his mission. Enlisting the handful of others that do, he sets up a platoon that patrols the nearby woods to take the fight to the enemy. Castle goes to various lengths to keep his personal war alive, including maneuvering to have a General killed by the enemy, all the while being "talked to" by a "voice" from inside him telling him how much Castle loves the war and can't stand to see it come to an end. The "voice" offers him a never ending war--for a price--which he finally accepts when the enemy storms the base in an overwhelming show of force. It's not until later that he realizes the "price" will be his family.
