Synopsis for "The Taking of the Avengers!"

An agent acting on behalf of several of the Avengers' former foes hires a masked killer known only as the Assassin to eliminate the team of heroes for one billion dollars. The Assassin demands a full year to make reparations, then accepts the contract one year later. Captain America's attle with a gangwearingduplicates of his own mask sets him up to be shot by the Assassin. Near death. Cap is hospitalized, and his fellow Avengers rally to guard him from further assaults. After Hawkeye skirmishes with two costumed intruders, he and the others are on the alert, unaware that the Assassin plots not merely Cap's demise, but their own, as well.

  • This is a fill-in story that was supposed to be printed in 'Giant Size Avengers #5' as explained in the letters page of Giant-Size Avengers #4.
  • This issue is divided into three chapters:
    • Chapter I: The Assasin Never Fails
    • Chapter II: Target: Captain America
    • Chapter III: The Small Hours
