History
Overview
Cape Canaveral is located near the center of Florida's Atlantic Coast. It is the hub of America's Space Program. Mar-Vell maintained a secret identity and worked at "The Cape" for an extended period time.
From 1963-1973 the area was named Cape Kennedy after former president John Kennedy. It reverted back to its centuries old previous name after that time.
Modern Age
As soon as Rick Jones learned that the Hulk was in New York, in order to get there, he took on a job to drive a car to the city for a man who advised him not to look in the trunk of the car[1].
As General Ross, his daughter Betty and Major Talbot attended the launch of the Orion Missile from the Cape in order to test it over the Atlantic Ocean, the man who hired Rick was tracked down and arrested. Accused of being a spy, he activated a remote that caused the device in the trunk of the car that Jones traveled in to turn into a robot, which made the Orion Missile change directions and head towards New York City[2].
The missile control then watched the Orion change its course again, overshooting the city, and suspected someone was guiding it[3].
Some time after, the Avengers and Rick Jones took Captain Marvel to an understaffed hospital in Cape Kennedy, hoping that Dr. Donaldson would cure a strange form of radiation he absorbed in the Negative Zone. Thanks to the Vision solar power, the doctor managed to save Mar-Vell's life, but the two were rendered unconcious. Meanwhile, the Kree Sentry #459, which was held under military surveillance at the Cape, was revived and fought its way into the hospital room where Mar-Vell was being kept[4].
During the ensuing battle, the Sentry's mission changed to capture Mar-Vell and initiate plan Atavus, eventually managing to teleport away with Mar-Vell as its prisoner. Reporting the incident to Carol Danvers, the Avengers made their leave to search for Mar-Vell[5].
During a televised event in Cape Canaveral supervised by General Ross, Xemnu sent a message coercing the children who were watching him on television to follow him to his home planet, but his plans were ultimately thwarted by the Defenders with the help of Jim Wilson and Ex-Col. Calvin Beame, who died in the effort[6].
Residents
Billy Joe (Earth-616)

Added by DoNConoscenteBilly Joe witnessed hundreds of kids walking straight toward the electrified fence of the launch facility, as they were ipnotically attracted by Xemnu to follow him[6].
Donaldson (Earth-616)

Dr. Donaldson once worked together with Henry Pym. He was contacted by the Avengers and Rick Jones to help cure Captain Marvel from a strange form of radiation he absorbed in the Negative Zone. The doctor explained that the Nega-Radiation was too strong, until the Vision suggested the very solar power from his body could maybe fight of the radiation. Setting up a device to channel that energy into Mar-Vell, the Vision aided in saving Mar-Vell's life, but the two were rendered unconcious just before the Kree Sentry #459 smashed through the wall of the understaffed hospital room where Captain Marvel was being kept[4].
Dr. Donaldson then witnessed the Sentry defeat the Avengers, kidnap Mar-Vell and then teleport away with him[5].
Former Residents
Calvin Beame (Earth-616)

Added by DoNConoscenteAstronaut Colonel Calvin Beame participated with Richard Wagner to a space mission aboard the Castor-and-Pollux I capsule. After flight trouble forced the capsule down over the ocean, where the duo was saved from the attack of a giant squid by Sub-Mariner, the two astronauts publicly quit the space program, supposedly in disgust over a lack of safety precautions. A short time later, he was convinced by Wagner to use their newfound celebrity to host a childrens' show, with Wagner dressing up in an alien costume. The show, called the Astro-Nuts, became a hit, although Beame grew more and more concerned about it, until his partner signed the Hulk in the WBZM Studios to pose for a huge televised event to be held in Cape Canaveral. At that moment, the alien character of the show actually revealed himself as Xemnu, who was hypnotizing the children viewing his program to populate his dead world. Beame, having enough, tried to help, but was killed by his "friend" before he was ultimately defeated by the Defenders[6].
