When Legion, the mentally unbalanced mutant son of Professor Charles Xavier and Gabrielle Haller, traveled back in time in an attempt to kill Magneto, he accidentally killed Xavier instead, creating a splinter universe known as the Age of Apocalypse. In that reality, mutants became the dominant species of the planet. Apocalypse rose to power and enslaved humanity.

Calvin Zabo became a member of a group of scavengers who lived outside of New York City, stealing what they needed to survive. Zabo and Cobra attacked Prelates Cyclops and Havok shortly after they were reunited with their father Christopher, who had just returned to Earth after a grueling ordeal in space. During the fight, Christopher was forced to impale Zabo with his sword, killing him instantly^[1].
