Synopsis for "Gifted (Part 1)"Edit

Tildie Soames is having a nightmare about how the onset of her mutant powers resulted in the death of her parents. She wakes yelling, and Dr. Kavita Rao comforts her.

Kitty Pryde arrives at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters with the intent to stay for the first time in awhile. As she walks down the drive and through the foyer, she experiences flashbacks to her early years with the X-Men.[1]

Ultimately, Kitty arrives in the Danger Room for the orientation presentation and finds she is late. Emma introduces the faculty, lays down some ground rules, and then triggers a holographic simulation of a Sentinel attack. Commenting on the 'lesson', she states "they will always hate us".

Later in the headmaster's office, Scott is upset with Emma's simulation. Emma responds that 10% of the students were excited about combat, and she thought they should know.

Dawn. Wolverine finds Scott and Emma together in bed, and provokes Scott into a fight. Later, the staff has a meeting in the Danger Room (sitting on the islands of Hawaii), where Hank dresses down Logan and Scott. Scott refuses to apologize, and, realizing the absurdity, goes on to say that the X-Men need to start presenting themselves more like a superhero team again. "Here come the tights" indeed.

Elsewhere: Kavita Rao prepares to give a press conference about the release of the new drug Hope, a drug she claims can cure mutants of their mutation.

The Chapman Building: Ord of the Breakworld and some hired mercenaries make hostages of the attendees of Walter Langford's Annual Fundraiser for the Preservation of Victorian Architecture.[2]

Hearing about the hostage situation on the news, the X-Men put on their costumes and leave to deal with the situation.

NotesEdit

  • Kitty Pryde claims "I'm not a fighter, not like you guys." This is a rather bizarre claim for someone who spent years with (and even briefly led) the X-Men, was with the original Excalibur team for its duration, worked for SHIELD, and is a highly trained martial artist.
  • This issue is reprinted in comics and books, see reference for more info.[3]
