HistoryEdit
Akhenaten ruled ancient Egypt as pharaoh from about 1367 to 1350 B.C. He was married to Queen Nefertiti. Akhenaten was a religious reformer devoted solely to the worship of Aten, the sun god. During the early part of his reign, he abandoned the state religion of Amun.
Apocalypse once tricked Akhenaten into thinking Apocalypse was his god, Aten.
He was later taken by aliens known as the Cosmic Order, who believed Akhenaten was the pinnacle of enlightenment and an ideal example of humanity. The Cosmic Order gave Akhenaten the Heart of the Universe, a powerful cosmic artifact that would turn those who possessed it into a living god on par with the most powerful cosmic entities in the Marvel Universe.
Akhenaten returned to Earth millennia later, after learning to use the Heart of the Universe, seeking to restore his kingdom.
Akhenaten killed the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and the Avengers. Doctor Doom tried to back into the past to destroy Akhenaten before he gained his powers, but Amenhotep had expected this and was there to meet Doom, saying Doom was a fool to think Amenhotep would leave his past unprotected.
Zeus and Thor called the Council of Godheads together, but Akhenaten destroyed them all when he detected Horus using the Eye of Ra to spy on him. Only Thor and Zeus managed to save themselves.
Thanos and the Defenders went to the Cosmic Order's ship. Thanos dived into the Heart of the Universe, thereby gaining unlimited power and destroying the ship. He went back in time and saved Doctor Doom so that Doom could kill Amenhotep's former self. This reversed all the damage caused by Amenhotep, however, the future Akhenaten was too powerful to be killed in this fashion, so he and Thanos did battle outside of time. Thanos sent Akhenaten back in time to face Dr. Doom. Doom destroyed the Cosmic Order's ship to remove their influence on the timeline, and Akhenaten died on board the ship. Thanos sent him to the afterlife in the form of a butterfly.
Trivia
Giving Amenhotep god-like powers, could have been a nod to his real-life counterpart who is speculated by some to have been an extraterrestrial.
