History

During the Mutant Massacre, the mysterious figure known as Amalgam approached the badly injured Warren Worthington III, offering him the choice to either die or be absorbed into her, allowing his powers and knowledge to live on and fight for mutant-kind. She claimed she had offered the same choice to many of the Morlocks left on the brink of death by the Massacre. To convince him, she took on the form and identities of the Beast and Cyclops, who claimed to have been absorbed by her at some point in the future after they had been killed by Sentinels.

Worthington accepted her offer, but she realized it was not his time to die, and ended the attempt at absorbing him.

Years later, Worthington, now Archangel, saw Amalgam again, after being badly injured fighting mutant terrorists. She laughed and called him a 'tease', before apparently absorbing the terrorist leader. Worthington was left unsure if either or both of her appearances had been real or just pain-induced hallucinations.[1]

Attributes

Powers

  • Power and Memory Absorption: Has the ability to absorb the powers and memories of mutants and sees herself as housing the re-creations of the mutants she absorbs.
  • Time Traveling: Able to travel through time
  • Appearance Alteration: Can change shape to mimic the appearance of the mutants she houses, and utilize other mutant powers from those she has absorbed (including those of the mutants Beast, Cyclops, and Destiny).

Notes

  • Her powers seem identical to those of Rogue, and her depicted costume is identical (or nearly so) to Rogue's original costume. Perhaps Amalgam is Rogue from an alternate future.
  • She shares an identical role with Legacy aka Reaper, another alternate reality Rogue.
