Alex Summers and his older brother Scott were were separated from their parents when their plane was attacked by a Shi'ar spaceship. In this timeline, due to their renowned genetic powers, both brothers were adopted and raised by Sinister, one of Apocalypse's Four Horsemen. Unbeknownst to them, their father Christopher Summers was eventually found by Sinister and given over to the Dark Beast for medical experimentation.
Both Alpha mutants, and both holding the rank of Prelate, Alex and Scott Summers dominated the new mutant aristocracy in Apocalypse's America. Sinister employed the brothers to operate his breeding pens, acting as security, and sometimes performing as a special ops unit. Scott's ability to show emotional restraint in battle earned him Sinister's favor over Alex, fueling a dangerous rivalry between the brothers. This rivalry worsened when the brothers reunited with their real father - Christopher Summers - but were forced to fight him when they discovered he had been infected with a Brood egg.[1]
Sometime later, Alex was teleported to one Apocalypse's Mid-Atlantic sea wall defense towers to protect it from Weapon X (Logan) and Jean Grey. Weapon X and Jean were trying to destroy the towers in order to evacuate human civilians in a Sentinel airlift. During the fight, Havok was grabbed by a Sentinel and sent back into the teleporter, sending him back to the pens where he came from. The Sentinel's hand was fused to his body on a molecular level. Havok was sent to the Dark Beast lab to have the hand separated from his body. The Dark Beast apparently used a bone-saw.[2]
Alex noticed his brother releasing prisoners from the pens. including a mentally unbalanced Lorna Dane.[3] Still harboring hostility against his brother, Alex re-captured the pen's former prisoner Jean Grey in order to use her against Scott. When Scott refused to execute Jean, Alex successfully exposed his brother as a traitor. The conflict escalated to a peak when Alex, with the help of Cannonball and Amazon, overthrew Cyclops as the head of both the Elite Mutant Force and the pens. Alex tuned Scott and Jean over to the Dark Beast for experimentation, however, they both managed to escape.[4]
Meanwhile, Alex's secret lover, the human Scarlett McKenzie, was discovered to be an agent of the Human High Council. She using her position as a singer at the bar called Heaven to obtain information from Havok as well as the patrons. She was arrested by the Bedlam Brothers and taken to the Breeding Pens, where she was confronted by Havok and revealed to him that she was pregnant with his child.
During the final battle at Apocalypse's citadel, Alex tracked down Jean and Scott. Havok brutally killed Jean Grey, who's telepathic shield had been preventing the release the nuclear bombs recently launched by the Human High Council again America. Thus, the bombs dropped, nearly destroying everything. However, before the bombs landed, Havok killed Cyclops before an enraged Weapon X killed Alex retribution.[5]
