Alex was an unpowered member of the Defenders, a wannabe superhero team with little or no powers. Most of the members seemed to only be in it for the fame, and this seemed especially so for Alex. Eventually, in order to gain popularity and powers, the group promised servitude to Loki, but in return gained superhuman abilities.

Following the Ultimatum event, they attacked the New Ultimates, but fled before either side could be determined victorious. It is assumed that he is currently still working for Loki, being unable to break the deal.
